Job Title: Miami Accessible Media Project Director
This position is at the Miami Correctional Facility (MCF) in Bunker Hill, Indiana. You will report to the Director of the Indiana Educational Resource Center and collaborate closely with MCF staff.
Role Overview:
The Director of the Miami Accessible Media Project ensures that transcription and production of Accessible Education Materials (AEMs) are completed on time and distributed to school-age children who are visually impaired. This includes the project’s administrative functions, training programs, daily operation of production shops, and collaboration with in-state and out-of-state agencies as appropriate to accomplish the project’s mission.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
Oversee the daily operations of the MAMP program, including braille transcription, large print production, tactile graphic production, and accessible digital file production.
Accurately transcribe and format textbooks, workbooks, and other instructional materials utilizing publisher files, MS Word, macros, templates, scanning, print, and other means according to national standards.
Proofread and ensure quality control for accuracy in creating and producing tactile graphics as needed, utilizing collage and computerized electronic drawing software; embossing, binding, and labeling of braille volumes produced.
Evaluate and revise policies, procedures, and guidelines as needed.
Develop new initiatives to ensure production methods are current.
Oversee the selection and retention of qualified offenders in collaboration with the MCF Education Department.
Develop, implement, and oversee training programs to meet production needs.
Provide initial and ongoing training of offenders and the acquisition of national certifications as required.
Implement and oversee an efficient quality control process to ensure the accuracy, quality, and timely access of transcription and production projects.
Develop statistical reports and maintain transcription and production databases, efficiently tracking incoming and outgoing orders.
Coordinate with the supervisor to ensure production hardware and software are up-to-date and operational.
Maintain hardware inventory by state asset lists and ensure all equipment is accounted for ongoing.
Maintain print and digital master collection of product titles.
Collaborate with IT to ensure technology and backup systems are updated and operational.
Fulfill responsibilities of an AMP or Accessible Media Provider for the NIMAC.
Partner with out-of-state agencies, vendors, and other clients for the commercial sale and distribution of MAMP products.

What You’ll Need for Success:
Credentials:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Certification from the National Library Service (NLS) in Unified Braille Code (UEB), or willingness to acquire within one year.
Certification from the National Braille Association (NBA) in Braille Formats, Principles of Print-to-Braille Transcription 2016, or willingness to acquire within one year of NLS UEB certification.
Certification in NLS Nemeth Braille Code preferred.
Additional qualifications:
Two years of supervisory experience.
Three years of experience in:
Transcribing and formatting K-12 instructional materials in Braille
Creating tactile graphics utilizing software and collage methods.
Excellent skills in keyboarding, word processing, data entry, Windows, and using software for scanning, transcribing, and producing instructional materials.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Proficient in acquiring, accessing, and processing electronic files as an Accessible Media Producer through the National Instructional Materials Access Center.
Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively.
Excellent customer service skills.
Skills necessary to assist in developing and implementing training programs.
Ability to remain current on specialized hardware used by students and end users.
Ability to remain current with methods, technologies, and other resources in Braille transcription.
Ability to adapt, work under pressure, and maintain tight timelines.
Fluent in English communication, writing, and grammar.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team leader for an assigned work group.
